Corvera Airport

Post by Duncan » Sat Apr 22, 2017 7:14 pm

The saga of Corvera Airport continues.

On 27th March, bidding for the airport contract was reopened. The Murcian government expects it will bring 800,000 more visitors to the Murcia region per annum However, a further complaint by Aena, owners of San Javier and Alicante airports, has suspended the bidding process.

The airport has relaunched its website which can be found here

The Corvera Airport is around 16km from Las Terrazas via Los Martínez del Puerto which compares to 18.4km to San Javier Airport.

Murcia Today reports on a bus service linking Corvera airport and the Costa Calida Golf Resorts.
The aim of the proposals is to provide easy, affordable and efficient transport to and from the airport for those living or staying at the resorts. Not only would such a service eventually enable them to travel to and from Corvera airport, at the same time it would make it easy to travel from one resort to another, an option which is not always catered for reliably by public transport services at present.
Fantastic news. That should really stimulate golf tourism and potentially apartment sales and rentals at Las Terrazas.

Murcia Today report that Aena have constituted a subsidiary company to take on the running of Corvera airport.

It is expected that San Javier will close to passenger traffic. Corvera will be in operation in 2018 once the necessary safety authorisations are in place. New operators are planning for flights for 2019.

It is anticipated that the opening of Corvera will double the number of hotel beds in Murcia city.. Perhaps this could also increase golf tourism and the demand for apartments at Las Terrazas de la Torre? Fingers crossed!

Jet2 announce they will cease flights from San Javier in November 2018 and will commence flights to Corvera from March 2019
From March 2019, our flights to the Murcia region will operate to Corvera Airport, with operations to San Javier Airport ceasing from November 2018 due to the airport closing.

From March/April 2019, flights will operate to Corvera Airport from Leeds Bradford and Manchester Airports, meaning that customers at both bases will continue to have access to award-winning flights and package holidays to Murcia.

The airport is located just 19 kilometres from Murcia City and 28 kilometres from the Costa Calida coast, and brand new road links to the A30 motorway network ensure a swift transfer to the holiday resorts in the region.

On top of that, the friendly Jet2.com and Jet2holidays team will be present at the Corvera Airport to deliver our famous VIP customer service.

Flights from Leeds Bradford will start operating to Corvera from March 29th 2019, with three weekly services (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) operating until 25th October 2019.

Flights from Manchester will start operating to Corvera from April 1st 2019, with three weekly services (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) also operating until 25th October 2019.
